'Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink
I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think
about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes
and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out
of work and their dreams would be shattered.
Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their
dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.'

And saving the best for last, as explained by Cliff Clavin, of Cheers.
One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the Buffalo Theory to his buddy Norm.
Here's how it went:
'Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.'

Linux, Turkeys, and General Silliness...
So, I am going to try and post everything that has been going on since last blog...but ya know, I am only human...
I have started smoking again, did not like the feeling I was experiencing while on Ciantix...will not take it again...
My power supply blew on my PC...luckily, that is all that seemed to go at that point. A couple days later, I got a virus again...one that told me the administrator disabled task manager...thought I was the administrator...bastards...but, I went ahead and formatted my machine and am now running Ubuntu Gutsy...feels great to be back in a *nix environment again, just wish things would fall together a bit easier. A friend of mine from the D2 chat rooms has been more than helpful in getting everything up and running with me, but I have had no sound in flash application in firefox til today when we had a power surge that knocked out everything...suddenly sound is working again! YAY!
Got a call from Nikki tonight, we are hosting "Family Thanksgiving/Christmas" at our house on friday, she called tonight to inquire as to if I am "molesting" the turkey or not. Totally took that one for all it was worth, but yes, I plan on making stuffing inside the bird!
Nuff for now, bbl! :P

Quitting is for Quitters...
So, here I am...slightly twitchy and edgy. My last smoke was Wed night, I am starting to get more cravings than I had previously, at least, that is the way it appears to be. Yesterday, I was able to keep myself occupied with other things, so didnt really notice the urge. Today, I have been doing whatever possible to keep my hands occupied, but, now that I am here at work, I dont have that luxury. I went so far as to change the oil on the Explorer today, then made sure to vaccuum all the crap out of the back end of it. I have decided that since I am still a ways away from getting my Jeep, I might as well play with the Explorer and see what I can do with it. Granted, it wont be getting a chainmaille top like I want to do with a Jeep when I get it, but, I can still do some playing around with it. I do need to find a remnant of berber or something similar to lay in the back...the paint spill from so long ago looks appalling now that I am paying more attention to it. Yellow-ish paint on grey interior is just jarring. Good thing there is still the cover that pulls out and blocks the view...I can pull it out and leave it there til I get something done with the carpet back there. My next project is going to be a general cleaning of the interior I think. My sister-in-law left an upholstery cleaner at our house for us to use on our couches, I think I will take some time and attack the seats in the Explorer with it and see if I cannot bring them back to some semblance of life. I also found some great accessories at Wal*Mart that just fit for some reason. Blue-black Skulls on tribal patterns. I picked up the steering wheel cover today while I was at there, but, at $20 a pop, the bucket seat covers will have to wait a payday or two. Or, Heather can get them for me on credit...eventually, either way, I will have the set. Including the window decals. I know, I am such a tool. Well, enough rambling for now...but will probably ramble some more later...anyone know where I can get some remnants?? I only need a small section, say 6ft square...prolly a dark colored berber, I would say grey to match the interior as it is already, but blah! Dark Blue or Black!! :D

So it begins...
Last week this time, I started taking Chantix. For those who dont know, it is the smoking cessation medication, found here. So, since I started one week ago, that means I am on week 2, which means a higher dosage of the medication, and, I can no longer smoke. The first week, they tell you to continue smoking, the second week, you stop. So far, I have been up for 2 hours and had breakfast and taken my pill. I feel the urge...recognize it for what it is...know that this too shall pass...but dear gods!!
Anywho...wish me luck, this is gonna be an interesting ride....

Tales from the Boot!
So, I went to see the doctor on Tuesday. She didn't xray me this time, but wants me to wear this silly thing for another 3 weeks, and when I go back on Nov 12, she will xray me then. Hopefully by that point, I will be healed and able to take this thing off for good!
In other news, Heather left yesterday at about 1500 to go to a conference in Grand Island for work. She wont be back until sometime Friday, I hate when she is gone! :(
I am awake, and it is only 0700...I was up at 0600-ish so I could get the kids outta bed and get them ready for school. 'K' will be home from school again today, he still feels a little warm, he spiked a fever of 102 on Tuesday night. So, instead of taking the kids to school again today, I will be walking 'T' to the bus stop.

Random Ramblings
So, been almost a week with no "real" blogging done, so I thought I would sit here and pound out a quick one to keep even myself up to date with what is going on. I get to go back to the doctor on Tuesday morning to get more xrays and fun stuff like that...foot still hurts, no surprise there. Not much really went on this week to talk about. My friend got me to sign on to a WoW server she plays on, and suddenly I am hooked once again. On top of playing that, I am playing 2 different mods for D2, Dark Alliance and Tricet of Apocalypse. DA is still in development and as such, still not even in alpha stages at this point. With only 3 playable characters and one act to run around in, only so much I can test at this point. I think we have pretty much beaten to death every bug so far! :D ToA is a pretty decent mod thus far, but, I have only made it to Act 2. Some of the skills take some getting used to in terms of how to aim them and such, but once you get that down, its fairly easy to take out a mob...just gotta get that aiming down. World of Warcraft...now there is a game that most D2Modders dont like to hear. I always said that after DAoC, I would not play a "Pay-to-Play" game again. Meaning, I will not go out and spend $50 on a game, only to have to continue to pay $15 or whatever per month to simply play the blasted thing. Enter good friends. I now have a copy of WoW, and play on a server, all for nothing. The server that I play on seems to have the experience up a bit from the last one I played, and the drop rate is insane. Greens are a little too abundant, but meh, I just will start selling them all instead of sending them off to the Guild Bank characters. Oh, and on top of playing all these, I have some work to do for another friend who made one of the Best full conversion D2Mods out there, Back to Hellfire. Oh, and, me and my friend who got me re-hooked on WoW are in the planning stages of making a mod of our own...anyone keeping score here, I lost count of how much I have going on...
Lets see, what else can I bore you with...Oh...I know! Heather is leaving Wednesday for a conference in Grand Island, which means she will be gone Wed and Thur, coming home sometime on Friday...that should be fun! :S
Monday evening I have been invited to go to a RAW event with friends who have an extra ticket, I hope my head calms down before then, otherwise, I am just going to stay home...kinda be stupid to go to a wrestling event with a migraine....talk about glutton for punishment! I hope the weather figures out what the hell it wants to do sometime soon, my head cannot take much more of this.
Well, thats all for now...wish I had more for ya, but, guess I am pretty much as boring as I thought I was! :D

So...Vala's...
We made it about half-way to the pumpkin patch, after a side trip to Grog's to see his decorations this year, when I turned to Heather and asked the famous question "Did you bring the camera?". Considering we have been without a working digital camera for over a year, this was actually good timing! :P We decided that since we were closer there than to home, we would go without the camera. :( Sorry to those who were wanting pics of me in my boot! :P
We get there, first things first, pit stop, it was a long drive. We head from there to grab a bite to eat...note to self, next year, stay away from the Bratwurst at the Pirate Cove Grub & Grog....bland city! Course, half-way through dinner, the one child who didnt take advantage of the pit stop now has to go...he can wait while we finish our dinner though, its half way across the place to get back to the restrooms. Dinner is over, another pit stop. We wander from there down towards the pony rides...Heather finally convinces the boys they want to ride on the ponies...after the pony rides, the boys are set to go into the "haunted house". Heather takes them through the Spook Shed, the kiddie version of a haunted house with no pop scares! I sit on the rocks outside resting my foot. The come out of there, now the boys want to go through the other hounted house. Heather takes them through that one while I stand outside and wait for them...not going to trust the floors in those places to be even enough for my to walk through comfortably. Next stop, Story book barn. I should have sat this one out as well, as the floors in here are definitely not boot friendly. We finish up the first part of the story book barn, the boys forget there is a second part and it saves me from having the chicken version of "In the Mood" stuck in my head, so all is good. It is now around 8pm or so, and there is lightning off in the distance. Heather suggests we go get some pumpkins from the hay rack ride, I suggest we go with her earlier suggestion and just pick some out of the bins. Much as I would love to traipse through the fields and find that pumpkin that is just right...well, you know, the boot...and the impending doom of thunder from overhead. We find pumpkins, mine is a monster! We check out, including Heather's chunk o' fudge that she grabbed at the last minute, our pumpkins ran us just over $13....at $0.30 per pound...you do the math...Heather and the boys got small pumpkins... :P We head home and it starts raining as we are leaving the parking lot....good timing, we got out of there before everyone and their brother was trying to leave the place at the same time!!!
I will try to get pics of our pumpkins at the very least, just to give you an idea of the size of this thing....its about as tall as Keigan, but weighs more than he does... :P (not like that is hard to do!) :D
Thats all for now, dont wanna bore ya with details about my harrowing experience of driving to work in the downpour while almost getting thrown off the road by hidden puddles at 60MPH.

Brain hurts...
|
We shall find out tomorrow...
This morning I woke up and was barely able to walk out of the bedroom. My foot swelled (swole?) during the night, and hurt like hell this morning. I took some (read 800mg) ibuprofen and used an ice pack for a bit, then I was out the door. While on the road with my folks to go get some stuff from the store and to get their other car, I was using a cane I picked up a while ago at the dollar store for support. I called the doctor's office while out and about, and set up to see the doc tomorrow afternoon, Heather has an appointment at 3pm to see about getting some Ciantix to quit smoking. I figured I could sneak in and have my foot x-rayed while there, just to be on the safe side. Currently, I am walking without my cane, but, I wouldnt call it walking, and dont expect me to make it anywhere fast... :D

It is official, I am a moron!
So, to make it a short story...my folks asked me to stop by their old house after work to help pull up the carpet in the living room, easy enough job, its only one room, 11' X 17'. So, we get it rolled up most of the way and it gets stuck. So here I am after working 13 hours, I decide the easiest way to move it would be to kick it.....can ya see where this is going yet? Here I am now, bout an hour later, with ice on my foot and 800Mg of Ibuprofen startin to work its way through my system. If it swells up by tomorrow, I will get it checked by the doc, til then, ice and ibuprofen...
What a Maroon!
What a Maroon!
Just a First Dump
Just checking out what the page looks like for now, will probably post more as the week goes by, not much to say right now, working and all that jazz...holiday weekends are the best! :D
